Whimsical and Fun Covers...

More covers for my friend, National Bestselling Author Angela Benson. These covers are for early romance novels that Angela as reacquired rights to and is now releasing in e-version. Hearts and flowers give a whimsical feel to this first cover entitled, "Friend and Lover..." Library Journal says of the story". . .a sham engagement between two longtime attorney friends leads to the real thing just in time for New Year's Eve in Angela D. Benson's funny and engaging 'Friend and Lover.'"

The next cover uses a vase of pink flowers on a deeply toned wooden curio in a foyer to create a romantic tone for "The Way Home." This book is a winner of several awards, including Romancing the Web Reader’s Choice Award for Best Multicultural Novel Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award for Best Multicultural Romance and a finalist for the Holt Medallion in the Southern Theme Category. The Literary Times describes The Way Home as, "A realistic, romantic tale of regaining lost love! Ms. Benson writes from the heart and it is reflected in her characters. Readers will be thrilled with Angela Benson's newest love story!"

This last cover is my favorite of the group. It was challenging to find a cover that worked, because the title is long. We finally settled on this beautiful red, gold and white cover. Publisher's Weekly says of The Nicest Guy in America, “The emotional misunderstanding between [Reggie and Kimberla] is much more subtle and interesting than the usual romance conflict, and that's what makes this stand out.” –Publishers Weekly

If you enjoy romance, and have never read Angela's work, do try these titles for your Kindle, Nook or e-reader!

New Covers..

This week I designed two book covers for National Bestselling author and friend Angela Benson. Angela didn't have a concrete idea about what she wanted for her covers; just something new and different. We went through several stock photo ideas before settling on these two photos from Dreamstime Stock Photos. We tried illustrations, floral designs and forest-y looks, but Angela loved Autumn Sunset Maple Leaves by Sarah Theophilis. After some searching we were able to pair it with Wheat field with Sunset by Mykhavio Palinchak.

Angela gave me lots of valuable input along the way and these covers are the end result of our collaborative effort. I think the covers offer a fresh face to Angela's Genesis House books--the Christy award finalist Awakening Mercy and the second edition of the series, Abiding Hope.

If you're a fan of Christian fiction and have not gotten the chance to read Angela's work, now is a good time. Look for these books to be published in e-book edition in the next week or so.

The Other Sister Too...

I wasn't sure how the legalities of transferring a cover design's licensing would go, so I wanted to make sure I was "covered." The result is this new design for The Other Sister cover. It offers the reader a simpler cover style to choose from. "The Other Sister" will be on sale soon in e-version at Amazon and Barnes and Noble for only $4.99!!

Book Covers!

So, back in the days of word processors I was trained in typography and for a number of years worked as a graphic designer, PMT camera operator and typesetter. Compared to the ornate way of coding phototypesetting, Photoshop is a snap. There is an art to typesetting--color, font, kerning, leading, lights and shadows, all help to convincingly convey the title. Anyway, I'm typesetting covers at $30 per. Gotta have your own art, illustration or photo. See samples along the side of the blog. I love it, it's a nice artsy break between writing...
